SASO Premier at DesertView! The overture is in sonata form. The openng vamp (with shimmering strings in B minor comes from that repetitive opening of New York, New York, and the first subject is a group of motifs from that songs, including "Start Spreading the News," "Be a Part of It" "New York New York"
The second subject, in the strings, is "My Kind of Town (Chicago is)."
The big climax announces the development (starting in G minor), which concentrates on the idea of crooning. The melodies in this section are fragments which could suggest all manors of songs, but are based on nothing in particular, just in a lounge style. There is a chamber section with solo English horn muted trumpet, leading into a general cascade of slot machines which pays out the recap (pitulation), both them groups now in B minor.
